Cardinals trade RP Mark Worrell to Padres for SS Khalil GreeneIn a slow-moving market, the Cardinals are acting quickly. St. Louis answered the biggest question in its 2009 lineup on Thursday, trading for Padres shortstop Khalil Greene. Greene replaces Cesar Izturis, who signed with the Cardinals as a free agent last offseason, but will be allowed to depart via free agency. Greene is considered a plus defensive shortstop and has typically -- though not in 2008 -- been a potent offensive threat as well. "I am both excited and honored to have a chance to play and contribute for such a storied franchise as the St Louis Cardinals," Greene said in a release issued by St. Louis. "The tradition in St Louis speaks for itself and I am hopeful to be a strong contributor for the Cardinals.

Cardinals’ prospect Luis Perdomo taken in Rule 5

The righthanded reliever the St. Louis Cardinals received in the Anthony Reyes trade with Cleveland was selected in the Rule 5 draft this morning by the San Francisco Giants. Luis Perdomo will be added to the Giants’ 40-man roster and taken to spring training where he will have the opportunity to make the major-league 25-man roster. He must be on that roster all season or be offered back to the Cardinals before he can be sent to the minors. Perdomo was a likely loss after the Cardinals elected n...

Duncan sounds off on Carp, Izzy, & more

Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak took a step toward shoring up his pitching staff for ’09. He finally wrapped up a deal with veteran lefthanded reliever Trever Miller, adding a needed new piece for next season.

This signing offers relief to some over-eager Cards fans who feared the deal would never happen. Mozeliak revised his offer from two years and $4 million to one year and $2 million due to a labrum tear discovered during Miller's physical.

If Miller holds up and pitches to fo...

Khalil Greene traded to the Cardinals

The Cardinals apparently have addressed their question at shortstop by acquiring one of the league’s largest enigmas. Hours after formally agreeing to a one-year deal with free agent reliever Trever Miller, the Cardinals traded for San Diego Padres shortstop Khalil Greene Wednesday night.
The Cardinals have yet to confirm the deal, but Greene is believed to have cost the Cardinals two players, at least one a righthanded reliever.

Greene experienced a production meltdown last season, one year...

Miller signed

After all this time, Miller signed with the Cards. Had a torn labrum that isn't bothering him so instead of 2 years $4 mil he gets a one year $2 mil with incentives contract. Probably go down the first day of ST. Crying or Very sad

Pujols earns the National League Player of the Week award

The awards are beginning to roll in for Albert Pujols. The Cardinals first baseman was named the Bank of America Presents the National League Player of the Week on Monday in what could be the first of many honors on the horizon. Pujols batted .588 (10-for-17) in the final week, with home runs in three straight games and 10 RBIs. Perhaps Pujols' final push will propel him to a second MVP Award. He finished the season with a .357 average, 37 homers and 116 RBIs in 148 games. He also set a career h...
